  • How does my donation help?

    • Costs of the Trees for Troops program include support materials, such as posters, banners, and tree tags that carry tree care tips and positive messages to the troops. There are also direct costs of coordinating the donations of real trees from more than 700 different tree farms and thousands of consumers.

      Monetary donations are the fuel that makes the program run!

  • How much of my donation goes to the program?

    • More than 97% of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation's budget goes directly to Trees for Troops. We spend 1.4% on fundraising, and administrative costs are about 1.6%.

  • How do I know if this is a legitimate program?

    • The Christmas Spirit Foundation is recognized by IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. It was founded in 2005 as the charitable branch of the National Christmas Tree Association, which was established in 1955. The foundation files IRS Form 990 annually and is professionally audited on an annual basis.

      The foundation has been accepted into the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC#12283), the world's largest annual workplace charity campaign.

  • What is Trees for Troops Weekend?

    • Trees for Troops Weekend takes place every year during the first weekend in December. Consumers can buy a tree at participating tree farms and retail locations to donate to the Trees for Troops program. These trees are delivered to military bases in the U.S. If there are no Trees for Troops Weekend locations near you, you can make a financial donation online or by mail.

  • Can I send a tree to a particular service member?

    • Unfortunately, we are unable to designate a tree for a specific individual. However, some Christmas tree farms and retailers, or those that sell mail order trees, may be able to help you do this.
